Hot dipped galvanized carriage bolts have a domed or countersunk head, and the shank is topped by a short square section under the head.
The square section grips into the part being fixed (typically wood), preventing the bolt from turning when the nut is tightened.
Carriage Bolts under 6 inches are fully threaded. Sizes over 6 inches in length have a shoulder.
Hot Dipped Galvanized assemblies should be used exclusively. If you use a HDG bolt you must also use a HDG nut.
Carriage bolts are designed to fasten a wooden face to either a wood or metal frame. Its flat head is designed to eliminate the need for a washer and provide a semi-flush finish to applications. The square underside of the head is self-locking to eliminate spinning and the need for a driving tool. Galvanized finish but can be chalky in appearance.

Multi-material Function
LOW-PROFILE HEAD: Smooth, domed head
NO WASHER NEEDED: Square shoulder locks into material
RUST-RESISTANT FINISH: Galvanized finish offers best-in-class protection against rust
